Hides Hide
Hides Hide

"Anyone who has nothing to hide, hides nothing"? I don't get this at all!?
Some people have told me (regarding privacy while in a relationship) that for trust and communication purposes, there should be NO secrets. This apparently means that my girlfriend should have unlimited access to read my email and letters and go through my phone calls and text messages if she chooses to do so.
I consider this utter bullshit. Maybe I don't have anything to hide, but what if the person I'm communicating with DOES? If he/she really wanted my girlfriend to know what's going on, she would have received the message as well. It's not about my privacy any longer, it's about my friends'.
I'm becoming convinced that demanding access to personal information isn't about trust at all, it's about curiosity and insecurity.
How do YOU feel about saying/hearing "anyone who has nothing to hide, hides nothing"?
Should couples have unfettered access to personal information?
Yeah, there's a huge difference between secrecy and privacy. I couldn't be with someone who didn't respect my privacy, and that doesn't mean I'm keeping secrets.
