Leather Cowhide
Leather Cowhide

I am confused. What type of leather should I be looking for when buying motorcycle leathers?
I'm looking to buy motorcycle leathers. Should I be looking for cowhide, lambskin, pigskin, or what? I think it should be something pretty thick and durable but still soft and flexible?
Top grain kangaroo has the most abrasion resistance, but is usually cost prohibitive for most riders. Top grain cowhide is second with top grain buffalo being a close third. Naked leather (top grain with the epidermis still intact) is the softest heavy leather you will find. Split leather (which includes suede) is softer but has much less abrasion resistance. Lambskin is soft and will rip much easier. Double stitching is important for durability.
