Making old, dry, cracked cowhide supple again?
This may sound odd but I have a cow leg canteen like thing. Its basically the lower half of a cow's leg that was hollowed out (hoof still attached) to put a bottle inside ( its for the renaissance festival) for wine, mead whatever I wish to put in it and its got a really nice leather strap. Ok. So the wine bottle that was inside broke and I need to replace it. Problem is the leather is HARD and Its pretty old so I don't want to take a chance of destroying it because this is VERY important to me. My boyfriend says soak it in warm water to make it pliable and then replace the bottle and sew it up before it has a chance to harden and shrink but I'm worried I might destroy it or its fur will fall out. I have limited resources but I will do anything to replace the bottle and make this thing Renfest worthy again. PLEASE HELP!!!
