how do I bring the colour back to my leather sofa?
I have a cream 3 piece leather suite which is 3 years old, there are a few cracks in it through wear (bums sitting on it), it looks as if the colour has rubbed off, is there anything I can put on it to bring it back to its former glory
Mags...I brought mine from a shop who brought direct from an Italian factory...BUT I have seen the same suite in a Land of Leather shop (bet it was the same Italian company that supplies land of leather)
Firstly you need to use a good quality water based foam leather cleaner and protector. Using these on a regular basis will keep your leather looking clean and using protector will inhibit grease and oils from soaking into the leather which is what ultimately does a lot of damage.
DO NOT use anything containing oils, waxes or silicones.
Baby wipes are the worst thing you can use as they will destroy the finish on your leather. Saddle soap is too harsh to use on todays furniture.
A good water based leather protector which will act like a 'scotchgard' and inhibit dirt and stains from being absorbed and make cleaning easier the next time.
If you have areas of damage then you can purchase pigment restoration which you can apply as long as the leather is in reasonable condition. Pigments will not adhere to the leather if there is grease present. Do not be tempted to buy coloured balms or colour products from the internet which claim they will repair this, mostly they will not and may make things much worse.
