Is there a way I can repair a small tear in a velvet jacket?
A 1/2 inch tear formed on the backside of a velvet jacket I own. I took it to a tailor who said he did not know how to repair it and another tailor who does "invisible stitch" also said they were not able to. Thanks for your help.
I would take a piece of the velvet from a facing or somewhere that it will not show, match the nap with the tear on your jacket, then carefully stitch the tear together over the patch. It may show a little but should make it wearable again.
The tailors declined because they knew they could not make it totally whole again and did not want an unhappy customer.
