Can you list me some tools and equipment I need to start working on my own bikes?
I'm tired of dropping money on repairs that I can't afford, so I'm going to build a rack and do my own repairs and assemblies. What are mandatory tools, equipment, and other things you can think of that I must have?
Also my bike is like skipping gears, do I need to tighten the cables or something like that?
Regarding skipping gears, the derailleur is out of adjustment. Put your bike on a stand or hoist it up in the air by a couple of ropes or straps. Turn the crank. Look closely at the point where the chain comes off the jockey pulley onto the cog of the rear cassette. You will note the chain is not fed onto the center of the cog. Chain is trying to move onto another cog, but can't quite make the jump. Hence the jumping or skipping. There will be a barrel adjustment by the derailleur. Turn adjuster until jockey wheel is directly under a cog. Skipping should be gone.
For tools, first and foremost, purchase a repair stand. Start with the correct equipment.
Metric hex wrenches. I like the Bondhus brand. See first link.
Small Phillips and straight blade screw drivers.
Tire irons. I like the ones made of aluminum better than the one made from plastic.
Chain breaker tool
Spoke wrench
Pedal wrench
Cone wrenches
Chain whip
Cassette driver to remove and install rear cassette
Crank puller
12" adjustable wrench (Crescent wrench)
The above tools will allow you to do about 90% of needed repairs for your bicycle.
There are many, many videos on YouTube detailing all aspects of bicycle maintenance.

Bicycles are the easiest machine to maintain and repair. Dealers keep everything a mystery. Can't blame them, but with a little bit of research, you will no longer require the service of the repair department of your local bicycle shop.
